3 generations between tradition and innovation in the organic sector
"... It was the distant autumn of 1936 when a twenty-one year old boy, my father Rino Avanzini, arrives in the small dairy of Rivalta di Lesignano de' Bagni, a tiny but idyllic village in the Parma Apennines, with a rickety bicycle, a bag with inside the only objects he possessed and a lot of hope and desire to do. Here the story of our family and our cheese farm began.
And it is only the beginning of a great adventure: in the fifties my father and his brother bought the dairy and the adjacent agricultural land, in the seventies the first modern barn was built, in 1987 we officially became Azienda Agricola IRIS and we began to transform only our milk to produce Parmigiano-Reggiano and numerous other products. Since 1997 we have certified the whole chain as organic (Biological) production.
The breeding of our cows is nourished and raised with fodder and vegetables obtained with organic agriculture in our agricultural fund.
In 2002 we built the new stable with free animals which, from birth to adulthood, can graze freely in the fields, cultivated in rotation just as they once did.
I am Umberto Avanzini , with my children Iris and Davide and my wife Carolina, we run our farm in the tradition of our family, producing, maturing and selling a Parmigiano-Reggiano produced from the milk of our organic farm with a unique and inimitable flavor, just as it once was: with passion and dedication!"
Ours is a story of innovation in tradition, made of passion and work in respect of nature. Important and courageous innovations that guarantee rich, valued and excellent products.
